Serious fishermen need serious gear. I don’t have the time to fish as often as I’d like, so when I do go fishing, I take it seriously. I want to use the best equipment to give me the best chance to catch fish. Any serious fisherman will tell you that polarized eyewear is a must, and I’m no exception. I’ve been lucky enough to try out a pair of Wiley X sunglasses on a couple of recent fishing trips.

As soon as I put these sunglasses on I could immediately tell these were different than any other pair of sunglasses I had worn before. The frames were built with durability in mind, but at the same time didn’t feel heavy or cumbersome to wear. The polarized lenses were ideal for removing glare from the surface of the water and helped me see underwater structure better than I normally would. Key fishing hot spots such as submerged weeds, rocks and drop offs instantly became easier to identify. The other nice thing about these lenses is that they covered my entire eye cavity. I felt that greatly helped keep the sun out of my eyes, but also protected me from debris and lures whizzing through the air.

Last month I was fishing on Minnesota’s Lake Alexander in search of big pike. Take my word for it, wearing a pair of Wiley X sunglasses makes a fish follow up to your boat a whole lot more exciting! To clearly see a big pike torpedo toward your boat is a sight that still makes my heart race.

A couple of weeks later I had the opportunity to fish for king salmon out of Wisconsin’s Sturgeon Bay and man did we whack’em! At one point there were 4 hookups going at once. Our fishing guides were running around the back of the boat, aggressively reeling in rigs with flashers and hooks, quickly changing out equipment, all while we were pulling fish into the boat – it was mayhem! I was glad I had my sunglasses on knowing my eyes were protected and I could stay focused on reeling in my fish.

My pair of Wiley X Twisted sunglasses have been a welcome addition to my regular fishing setup. I’d recommend a pair of these sunglasses to anyone looking for high-quality, polarized sunglasses that not only give you an edge when fishing, but help protect your eyes when conditions get tough.
