Lady anglers and Florida entrepreneurs Natalie Leeke and Debbie Hanson recently announced the official launch of Bassfisherwomen.com, a website and online apparel shop aimed at women who fish.
Leeke and Hanson originally came up with the idea for the website and clothing brand back in 2011. “We noticed that other women were much more encouraged, responsive, and open to asking questions about fishing if the information came from other women,” says Hanson. “We saw a need and wanted to fill it. Our goal was to build an online forum where women could find useful fishing tips, connect with other female anglers, and find fishing shirts or gear that helped to spread our enthusiasm for the sport.”
Although the business started out as a simple online shop selling “Shut Up and Fish!” jerseys and “Girl With a Lure” tank tops, the site now attracts an average of 20,000 visitors monthly and includes fishing “how to” articles, instructional videos, gear reviews, tips on places to fish, recipes, profiles of successful female anglers, a local fishing “Meet Up” group and monthly e-newsletters. The brand’s appeal has led to national media exposure with video coverage from World Fishing Network and MonkeySeeVideos.com/Knowlera Media (produces online video for syndication on major web portals such as AOL.com).
Both Leeke and Hanson use Fishidy’s mobile app when researching new fishing areas, checking lunar phases, and logging catches. Be sure to connect with them if you plan to visit South Florida!
